For The Record, The Globe Has Been Messing Up A Lot Lately

Mistakes happen, but these errors suggest the Globe doesn't really know the community it purports to cover.

Mistakes happen in journalism, but the string of corrections published by the¬†Boston Globe in recent days has been indicative of a larger problem: reporters and editors don’t seem to know the basics of the city they cover.

For example:

  • Correspondent Joseph P. Kahn didn’t know that James Bulger’s crime syndicate primarily operated in South Boston.
  • An unnamed editor inserted the wrong name for Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey into a story.
  • In a story about military discharges, correspondent¬†John Hilliard reported the wrong kind of discharge for one of his sources.
